The Boy Scouts Rebranding as Scouting America: An Inclusive Future

Many of us have cherished memories of our time in the scouts, a place traditionally divided into Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. However, the times are changing, and the organization is evolving.

After over a century as The Boy Scouts of America, the organization will rebrand as Scouting America. This change, while significant, is seen as necessary for progress.

In recent years, The Boy Scouts have opened their doors to both boys and girls, as well as gay youths. This decision, along with financial challenges, sexual abuse allegations, and declining membership, prompted action. President and CEO Roger Krone expressed the desire for all youth in America to feel genuinely welcome, aiming to ensure their programs thrive for the next 100 years.

The rebranding aims to foster growth and attract a new generation of scouts while upholding core values. If successful, on February 8, 2025, their 115th birthday, the transition will be official.

Since allowing gay youth in 2013 and girls more recently, over 6,000 girls have become Eagle Scouts, showcasing the positive impact of inclusivity. Despite criticism, including from Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, The Boy Scouts are determined to make scouting an enriching experience for all.

The new name they chose to rebrand is Scouting America.
