On April 30, 2025, Michael Bolton’s daughter, Taryn Bolton, stated in an interview that her father had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and severe kind of brain cancer.

She claimed that they discovered the first traces of cancer on Thanksgiving 2023. When the family went bowling, her father started bowling out of turn, which they all described as “super weird.”

He had slipped out of his chair earlier that evening. She said, “He fell out of his chair to the left, which is rather rare. He’s incredibly athletic and doesn’t drink,” he says, adding, “So he fell, and we were like, ‘What just happened?’”

Other symptoms at the time were nausea and balance concerns, which Taryn and her sisters, Holly and Isa, blamed on the singer’s weariness and stress. Michael was still quite active at the time, since he was on tour, making a cameo in a movie, and promoting his new record.

Michael visited the hospital that weekend because he had a strong headache. An MRI of his brain revealed a tumor, which was surgically removed shortly after. A week later, a pathology report on the tumor confirmed that it was glioblastoma.

In January 2024, Bolton announced the news to his admirers, describing what had transpired in a post. He declared a brief hiatus to recover after the procedure. The Grammy-winning singer thanked his followers for their support.

GBM is one of the most common and hardest to treat malignant brain tumors, per the Cleveland Clinic. The tumor spreads swiftly and infiltrates normal brain tissue. There appears to be no therapy to prevent these tumors from developing.

The most typical signs of this type of tumor include headaches, speech or memory problems, seizures, and personality abnormalities.

These tumors are frequently treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. While treatments can help patients live longer and healthier lives, they are not cures because tumors often recur.

Taryn said in her interview that she was not the only one who noticed symptoms of change in her father. Her sister Holly recalls when her father started singing after surgery. A nurse, who had no idea who Michael Bolton was, asked his kids whether they were aware of his incredible singing ability.

Bolton discussed in the interview how his life has altered since surgery. He explained how his therapies have affected his speech, memory, and movement. However, the singer prefers to concentrate on the good. He stated, “Succumbing to the task is not an option.” You’re quickly drawn into a duel…that’s how you know what you’re made of.”

Michael Bolton thanked his fans for their love and support as he battled the malignancy. His words were, “I’ve drawn strength from your encouragement, and I continue to draw strength from it every day as I move forward on this journey.”

We extend our warmest wishes and prayers to Michael Bolton as he recovers from this hard episode. Share this with other singer admirers so that they may stay up to speed on his current activities
